Une murale en hommage à Leonard Cohen verra le jour ce mois-ci

Dans le cadre du Festival d’art public MURAL, les organisateurs ont annoncé la réalisation durant le mois de juin d'une grande œuvre murale en hommage à Leonard Cohen sur le boulevard Saint-Laurent.

C'est sur la façade sud de L'Édifice Cooper, située sur le boulevard Saint-Laurent à quelques centaines de mètres des lieux où Cohen a vécu et habités pendant plusieurs années que sera réalisée la murale sur 9 étages !

« Nous sommes très fiers d’avoir pu ancrer cet hommage permanent dans un secteur de notre ville qui appartient vraiment à l’ADN de M. Cohen. Nous avons bien hâte de présenter le résultat aux Montréalais », souligne André Bathalon, cofondateur et porte-parole du festival MURAL.

L'oeuvre qui sera visible de tous les piétons et véhicules qui empruntent le boulevard Saint-Laurent est maintenant en phase de pré-production et sera terminée à la fin du mois de juin.

C’est Kevin Ledo, un artiste muraliste montréalais de renommée internationale qui s'occupera de réaliser le projet. Il a notamment réalisé des murales en hommage à Janine Sutto et David Suzuki, en plus de plusieurs œuvres d’envergure partout à travers le monde.

On a hâte de voir le résultat !

Finished today! "Flow the Chi" is done with latex and spray paint, about 24 feet high. Despite the off and on rain, I managed to pull this off. This is painted directly on the Jardin Orange building where I am doing my art residency here in Shenzhen, China. If you look closely you can see two women sitting in the library on the bottom left. I dove into a little bit of a different style with this mural, "Create Peace." The artwork ended up channeling a 1970s silkscreen poster design style, and this happened in a natural flow, without it being my initial intention. The piece was all done with brushes and rollers on a brick surface, and so I found it a better approach to use vectorized feel, which is a different technique to the smooth gradations of shadow that I normally do. The pronounced brick texture actually made it difficult to approach the piece as I normally do. Finally, the 8 point star that I painted can be found on the Guilford flag, a Greensboro historical flag which today is generally accepted as symbolic of the American Revolution. This use of the star is a total coincidence, as I didn't know anything about the flag when I planned out the design.
